Ann Arbor Black Film Festival Judge Edits Award Winning Film At The American Black Film Festival

Ann Arbor, MI – June 21, 2024 – The Ann Arbor Black Film Festival is excited to announce that one of our judges edited the American Black Film Festival’s Best Director Award Winning film, The Waterboyz.

Alex Luna, American Film Institute graduate, film editor and A2BFF Judge has been working in Hollywood as an editor for 2 decades.

Luna was hired by The Waterboyz director Coke Daniels, after Daniels' wanted a fresh set of eyes on the project to see if it could go in a different direction. Alex took on the project, chasing his passion since film school, to work on more socially conscious films and The Waterboyz is exactly that.

The Waterboyz is a film shot in and around Atlanta, based on real events involving street hustlers and entrepreneurs. Its world premiere was at the American Black Film Festival in Miami on June 14th to a packed screening room.

Alex worked on the film for 3 months, shaping the project to match the director’s vision and preparing it for submission.

“I’m happy that the film is now seen and appreciated, and I am very happy for Coke Daniels, winning at the American Black Film Festival will get future eyes on his project and open up more opportunity for all the talented filmmakers that worked on it,” revealed Luna. “When you work hands-on with someone you really want to be able to deliver that director’s intended vision. The director likes my work, and I was able to deliver it for him, and for an editor, that is exactly what you want.”

Congratulations to Alex, we know you will continue to support many successful projects!
